Build Your Dream

The Artisan Hardscapes Client Journey

The Vision: Zero-Pressure Consultation & Site Assessment

Turning Your Ideas into a Plan

Consultation: This is a complimentary, zero-pressure discussion focused entirely on your goals. We listen to your vision for the space, discuss your functional needs (entertaining, relaxing, access), and establish a clear priority list for the project.

Site Assessment & Measurements: Our expert team performs a detailed analysis of your property. We go beyond simple measurements to note critical factors that affect longevity, including:

    • Drainage and Grading: Identifying current water flow issues that must be managed to protect your home’s foundation.

    • Soil Composition: Assessing the ground stability to determine the optimal depth and materials needed for your project’s sub-base (the key to preventing shifting).

    • Existing Utilities: Locating and noting all underground utilities for a safe and compliant build.

  • Hand Sketches & Feasibility: Using the information gathered, we provide on-site, initial hand sketches and discuss material options. This ensures your vision is structurally feasible and aligns with your budget and our standard of lasting quality.

The Plan: Precision Design & Project Confirmation

  • Detailed Project Proposal: You receive a comprehensive, itemized document based on the site assessment. This proposal clearly outlines the scope of work, material selections, projected timeline, and a transparent investment breakdown—no hidden fees, ever.

  • Precision Drawings: We move beyond simple sketches to provide accurate design plans. These plans adhere strictly to local codes, ensuring the final structure is safe, compliant, and geometrically excellent (especially for crucial elements like steps, walls, and fire features).

  • Material and Design Confirmation: You will review physical material samples (pavers, stone, block) and finalize colors and textures. This ensures the aesthetic vision we discussed in Step 1 perfectly matches the physical materials we will install.

  • Scheduling and Contract: Once you are completely satisfied with the design and proposal, we finalize the contract and integrate your project into our installation schedule, setting clear expectations for the start and completion dates.

The Foundation: Building for Lasting Durability

This is the phase of the journey where the ground preparation—the most crucial element of a durable hardscape—takes place. We treat your project like a foundation, not just a surface. While this work will eventually be covered, it is the step that guarantees your project will remain structurally sound for decades. We never cut corners on the sub-base.

  • Deep Excavation & Soil Stabilization: We begin by excavating deep enough to remove all unstable, organic topsoil. We then lay heavy-duty commercial-grade geo-fabric. This separation barrier prevents the unstable native soil from mixing with the structural base material, guaranteeing superior performance in the Fargo climate.

  • Engineered Structural Base: We install a minimum of 6 inches of compacted, angular rock base—often more, depending on your soil and anticipated load (e.g., driveways). This depth ensures the weight of the hardscape is distributed properly and acts as the essential drainage layer, actively preventing the water saturation that causes frost heave.

  • Precision Leveling Pad: For complex structures like retaining walls and steps, the base is capped with a rebar-reinforced concrete or gravel leveling pad. This ensures the first course of stone or block is perfectly placed and locked in place, guaranteeing zero movement from the ground up.

This detailed, three-part process is why our hardscapes remain beautiful and level long after others have failed.

The Transformation: Installation & Aesthetics

With a rock-solid foundation underneath, our focus shifts to meticulous craftsmanship. This phase ensures every stone, block, and joint aligns perfectly, delivering the stunning, high-end finish you expect.

Structural Integrity and Compliance

For all vertical elements (retaining walls, steps, fire features), we adhere strictly to engineering best practices. For stairs, this means meticulously maintaining a uniform rise and run across every step, eliminating common tripping hazards and ensuring code compliance and comfort.

Integrated Feature Installation

All ancillary features are installed and integrated flawlessly into the hardscape. This includes tying in custom lighting (wiring protection), connecting gas lines for fire pits/grill islands, and ensuring all edges flow smoothly into the existing landscape.

Joint Stabilization

We finish the primary surface by sweeping in polymeric sand or using specialized joint stabilizers. This material locks the pavers together, inhibits weed growth, and seals the joints, providing an additional layer of lasting durability.

The Enjoyment: Final Walkthrough

Satisfaction and Long-Term Peace of Mind

Before we consider the project complete, a detailed walkthrough is conducted with you. We review every aspect of the finished hardscape—from structural performance to aesthetic details—to confirm that the installation meets the exacting standards outlined in your design plan and exceeds your expectations.

Site Cleanup and Restoration

We ensure the workspace is cleaned . All debris, equipment, and surplus materials are removed, and we take steps to restore any areas of your landscape that were affected by the installation process, leaving you with nothing but a beautiful, ready-to-use outdoor space.

Protective Sealing and Care Guide

Based on your chosen materials, we apply professional-grade sealant (if elected) to protect the surfaces from stains, color fading, and wear. We then provide you with a detailed guide on routine care to maximize the lifespan and beauty of your new outdoor space.

Let's Start with a Plan.

You now know exactly how we engineer hardscapes for lasting quality and zero-movement. Your journey begins with a complimentary, zero-pressure consultation where we assess your property and discuss your vision. Stop worrying about shifting patios and let’s start planning the outdoor space you deserve.
